On the 03rd of July a Sub-Inspector (SI) from the local police station arrived at the House of Prayer church premises in Makola in the Gampaha district at around 10 a.m., while the Sunday service was in progress. He questioned the pastor about his religious worship activities and asked the pastor if he had any legal documentation pertaining to the church and his activities. The SI then demanded that the pastor discontinue his worship activities immediately and meet the Officer-in Charge (OIC) of the area police station.
Later that day, at approximately 2 p.m., the pastor arrived at the police station to meet the OIC but was told to return on a later date as the OIC was absent.
On the 09th of July, the pastor and his lawyer arrived at the police station at around 12 p.m., for a meeting with the OIC. The OIC claimed that he was not aware of the situation and that he would refer the matter to the Divisional Secretary. He advised the pastor to continue his services with caution.
