The torrential rain which was recently experienced in most parts of the island has caused death and destruction in 11 districts; namely, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Colombo, Gampaha, Matara, Galle, Kurunegala, Puttalam, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy. The inclement weather conditions have displaced many families, with floods in the low lying areas inundating homes and forcing the residents to seek shelter in temporary camps and earth slips in other areas destructing homes completely. In both situations, the victims find it difficult to purchase food items and other essentials.
More than 400 Christian families too have been affected by this situation, with appeals for aid pouring in from all affected areas. The NCEASL is engaged in providing relief for congregations affected by the floods in the Ratnapura and the Kalutara districts. Each relief packs is worth SLR 1,300.00 and contains rice, dhal, tea leaves, milk powder, soya meat, matches, toothpaste, soap, sugar, biscuits and candles.
If you would like to sponsor a relief pack or donate the above items please contact Mahesh Perera on 011 5511358/9 or via [email protected]
